The image is of the mandorla. |
According to Robert A. Johnson(Owning
Your Own Shadow -SanFrancisco, Harper: 1991, p.98) “the mandorla is the
almond-shaped segment that is made when two circles partly overlap.
It is not by chance that the mandorla is also the Italian word for almond.
This symbol signifies nothing less than the overlap of the opposites - heaven and earth. The mandorla instructs us how to engage in reconciliation.” It is a symbol of “holding both”. This symbol is dear to my heart because it represents my experience in psychosynthesis, in meditation, in life. From the overlap of light and darkness comes creative growth. As Johnson says: “conflict to paradox to revelation: the Divine progression.”(91) |
