Guidelines
for Presentations
Dear Students,
Within your group, you will be co-presenting
your plans for an ideal day in Toronto to your fellow classmates. The following
guidelines will assist you in your presentation.
Purpose:
What is the purpose of your presentation?
Ideally, the presentation of your "perfect day" effectively engages your
audience and motivates them to participate in your carefully planned itinerary.
What techniques can you use to arouse and maintain audience interest?
Time:
10 minutes
In 10 minutes, you will have to be precise,
succinct, and concentrate on the main ideas of your presentation.
Oral

Express your ideas and thoughts with clarity.

Use appropriate tone of voice and body
language to clarify meaning.

Adjust your delivery to suit the size of
your audience group.

You are encouraged to use resource materials,
(for example, Power Point, web sites, charts, video, or posters) to illustrate
ideas in the presentation.

Present in a collaborative manner by building
onto each others' ideas and taking turns to speak during the presentation.Use
eye contact, variations in pace, appropriate gestures with your audience,
(for example, "pause for effect").

Use vocabulary appropriate to the topic
in your presentation.
Tips:

Practice, practice, practice!

Rehearse and revise your material before
making your presentation.

You may use cue cards, but try not to read
off of them. They should just be reminders.

Ensure that the physical set up of the
room enables your audience to view you and maintain interest.

If you are planning to use technology,
be prepared to troubleshoot.

Know your topic well, be prepared to answer
questions confidently from the audience.
