I. STEPS TO SELF DISCOVERY
By Anne Mulvaney Ed.D.
A 5 week course in psychosynthesis and
meditation based on several authors, including John Powell S.J., who wrote
“Solving the Riddle of Self”. Self discovery, a lifelong process, is aided
by various “road maps” to self understanding. Through five evenings, people
step back in wisdom, compassion and humour to learn how to clear up some
inner mysteries, change negative thinking and attitudes, to accept and
find joy in daily life.
One Day workshop
The Mystery of Me - A Psychosynthesis Perspective.
Psychosynthesis, a transpersonal psychology,
was developed by Roberto Assagioli, a medical doctor/psychiatrist, contemporary
and one time colleague of Jung. It has great implications for education.
Assagioli's purpose was to create a scientific
psychology which encompassed the whole person, "to help us to live better,
more fully, according to the best which is within us."
Teachers can use the techniques to understand themselves better and to allow their students to appreciate their own self worth. The gentle yet profound exercises reveal our often hidden biases and talents. It is a psychology of compassion laced with acceptance and humour. The key is a clear understanding of the Act of Will. Many teachers already operate in a psychosynthetic manner naturally.
A.M. Devoted to personal self
discovery and affirmation.
Techniques include breath meditation,
mantra meditation, guided imagery, free drawing/writing and discussion.
These techniques are guaranteed to prevent “burn-out” if adopted.

Nobody is Perfect! Even Parker Palmer describes “a Kid From Hell”in his
book: The Courage to Teach, when he himself forgot all his expertise.)
III. BODY, MIND, EMOTIONS, AT ONE WITH
THE SPIRIT! - week-end
Explore the power of the imagination to
heal ourselves. Put to rest unresolved
issues.
Rediscover the kingdom of God within
our own hearts through imagery, meditation
and discussion.
With yourself, with God, and with others.
Step back for the week-end. In the spirit of renewal, come to a place of
quiet through meditation and imagery. Allow new windows to
open which rejuvenate these relationships within your own heart.
The days will be filled with experiences in meditation: breath, mantra, Gospel imagery and meditations in nature. This will be balanced by explorations and discussions to better understand the personal will as explained in “Act of Will”(Psychosynthesis). This is an invitation to improve the quality of your daily life here and now.
“The soul lies midway between understanding and unconsciousness, and that its instrument is neither the mind nor the body but imagination…The care of the soul is a sacred art…psychology and spirituality need to be seen as one” (Moore,Thos. The Care of The Soul, introduction)
We will learn how to re-school our will so that we are able to accept ourselves as we are and allow ourselves to transform into more centered, peaceful persons. We learn, through meditation, to pay attention to the images that we unconsciously hold - so that we might change them - that they will be more conducive to quality living.
