IRC CHAT ROOMS
GOING SYNCHRONOUS
In the summer of 1996, I took a collaborative course from Spectrum Virtual University called "The Ultimate Web Page". A group of us from around the planet came together to to create a web site that we hoped would be educational and entertaining. We corresponded with e-mail and checked the progress on the world wide web. From time to time we would meet to talk together in "real time" in a virtual chat room. Here, we could discuss the decisions, problems, etc. of our work all at the same time. Through this process we created Webzotica Odyssey.
LET'S TALK!
In order to connect with a chat room, it is first necessary to install an IRC client on your computer system. These can be downloaded from a number of sites on the internet. For the PC user, you might want to go to Stroud's Consummate Winsock. Click on the index and go to "I" for IRC. Download, install and launch your IRC client.

THE PROCESS
When you get your IRC client running, you want to login to the chat network:
irc.buffnet.net
port#6667
List the active chatrooms. They will be given as icons or listed. Double click or select JOIN
JOIN and enter name #TeachingTime
It usually works best if you correspond first with your colleagues and agree on a time to meet. Then meet and chat!
