As a professor, she won both provincial and international awards for outstanding contributions to teaching and learning with technology and for innovative excellence. She continues to have a special interest in cultivating student creativity and promoting self-actualization. She graduated with high honours from the Designing Curriculum Using Instructional Technology Certificate Program at Seneca College in 2004. She graduated in 2010 from the three year Adult Art Program at The Art Centre, Central Technical School.
Before her retirement from full time teaching at Seneca College (2007), Dr. Selia Karsten developed and taught a variety of courses in the School of Marketing and eBusiness. In 2007: Advanced Computer Applications and Graphic and Web Design. Other courses developed and delivered include Career Launching and Portfolio Development, Effective Business Presentations , E-Commerce and (online) Web-Based Learning at Seneca. She also developed learning materials for and taught How to Be a Successful Student, She was involved in training workshops for faculty in the Professional Development Department including the BlackBoard learning management system and developing eportfolios. She served on numerous Faculty committees related to teaching and learning with technology. Her projects included CD ROM and video-taped learning materials and web-based courses for classroom and on-line and more recently, research concerning language learning and student success. Selia's background includes directing, producing, designing, writing and performing in the theatre, video production, multimedia, life skills counseling and career development, prior learning assessment, and alternate modes of course delivery.
