About Derek:

I graduated from UWO (University of Western Ontario) from the MIT program – Media, Information and Technoculture, which is just a fancy name for their multi-disciplinary program in all things new media.  I consider myself a bit of a jack of all trades when it comes to media and online technologies, although with the explosion of new online technologies out there it is getting harder and harder to keep up with the latest and greatest.  I’ve generally always worked in higher education environments, starting with supporting traditional physical educational technology at York University and a blend of all things instructional technology at Georgian College.

Just about anything these days, if used properly, can be beneficial in an educational context, so my current job at OISE is to assist faculty with whatever they need.  Recently this has been focused on the Blackboard portal since moving to that environment from FirstClass.  However with its benefits and flaws, I work with faculty to assist with whatever technology brings about the best benefit to their own personal pedagogy.
